BERNINA Spotlight: Donna Tegan

I met Helen Vigansky at the December 830 LE VIP event in Chicago, and she told me about a sewing friend she thought we’d like to know about. I’m so glad she did! Here’s what she has to say about her friend, Donna Tegan. (My newest role model!)

Donna is 86 years old and has been an avid BERNINA sewer for many, many years. She currently owns an 830 LE and carries it in and out of workshops herself. She still teaches sewing and quilting at Fox Valley Technical College at both their Oshkosh and Neenah, Wisconsin campuses. She runs special three-day workshops several times a year using the BERNINA 830 and has about fifteen ladies in that group. She was a recycler or repurposer of fabrics and materials way before it became popular.

Donna is full of life. She not only raised ten children of her own, but raised fifty (!) foster children as well. Once you meet Donna, you are a friend for life.

Thank you, Helen, for introducing us to Donna! I want to still be sewing and teaching when I’m in my 80’s. too! My grandmother is still sewing at 92, so I’m genetically predisposed to do so, right? Jo

  • My sister in law shared this article on facebook. I’m one of Donna’s grandchildren and I talk about her all the time. She’s a really amazing person that so many of us look up to. When I was 13 and she was 66, she went rollerblading with me. I thought that was really cool 🙂
