BERNINA 125th Anniversary Quilt-Along: Preview
Welcome! I’m BERNINA Expert, Amanda Murphy, and I would like to invite you to join the BERNINA 125th Anniversary Quilt-Along!
The BERNINA 125th Anniversary Quilt. Kits for this quilt are available from your local BERNINA store and are being bundled with 125th Anniversary Edition Machines.
We’ll be piecing and quilting together over the next six months, incorporating a wide variety of techniques along the way. The directions will be available for free here on WeAllSew. Whether you choose to sew the quilt in the original fabrics or opt to select your own, we hope you will participate in the fun!

The quilt also features embroidered motifs, but we’ll give you other design options as well if you choose to forego the embroidery. We have some great prizes in store for you as well like this fabulous BERNINA Anniversary Edition machine:

We’d love to have you! Many of the US BERNINA dealers are stocking the kits. They are available for purchase to anyone; you do not need to have a BERNINA to sew along!

Why do we press some seams open and other seams to the dark?

In general, instruct you to press seams to one side when I know they will lock with other seams. And when I want seams to “disappear”, like in the border, I press them open. That being said, these are only suggestions and you should feel free to press as you prefer.

Yes, the supply list will posted in the first full post on September 10th.

If the link above doesn’t work you can get to it by going to the product page of the Anniversary Edition sewing machines (880 Plus or 790 Plus), go down the list of what comes with the machine, and click on the 125th Anniversary Quilt Kit and it will take you to the pdf that has the supply list as well on instructions of putting this together.

Hi, I recently treated myself with the 790 Plus AE. I plan to do the quilt along. Has the download been fixed yet? I consider myself a beginner so I don’t want to do the wrong thing.

Do we need the special software to do the embroidery on the 125th Anniversary Quilt? Just yesterday I obtained my machine and I am currently taking my beginner classes for the 790 Anniversary edition. Thank you.

The 790 Anniversary Edition comes with the designs on it! I’ll be walking you through the process in the Sew-Along.

I have the 880 and just bought the Plus…will i be able to access your additional designs? Which embroidery designs come with your webinars? i’m playing catch-up, so sorry for asking stupid questions! will i have to purchase the Jubilee USB stick for the designs? Thanks!

Yes. They won’t be loaded on that machine, but they are available separately as part of the BERNINA 125th Anniversary Embroidery Collection. Or you can substitute other embroideries or do applique or eliminate the embroideries all together.

I’m not seeing the issue on my end, but I inquired and BERNINA suggests emptying your cache and cookies and also check if a media player is installed on the desktop.

How do you get the embroidery designs if you already have a Bernina sewing/embroidery machine?

They are all contained in the BERNINA Anniversary embroidery collection as well. I’ll have more info on this in the coming weeks.

I have a Bernina 440QE, will these Embroidery patterns work on my machine? The store where I purchased my machine went out of business. Can these kits be purchased online?

I’m sure that if you call some BERNINA dealers, they would be happy to do mail orders. Many stores have the kits. If you have the embroidery module for this machine and an oval hoop, you’ll be able to stitch out the designs, although you’ll have to multi hoop the designs for the corners. There is also a Jubilee embroidery panel available for those who would prefer to applique the motifs. Hope this helps!

Do you mean the kit? That would depend on whether your dealer has the fabric. You can quilt along even using other fabrics though.

My Austin dealer does not sell the kit separately–you have to buy the machine to get the kit. Bummer.

The fabric kits are currently not available in Australia. Kennard and Kennard Fabrics (https://www.kkfabrics.com.au/) will have the fabrics but not until November.

It’s a very pretty quilt, but I only have the B530 and no embroidery capability. Would I still be able to do this quilt?

For those of us outside of the USA who don’t own an embroidery machine or have access to the alter appliqué blocks will there be suggestions on what we can use instead or close up posted of said blocks so we can find something close to the designs to use in their place?

Ordered an Anniversary Edition 790 last month and am anxiously awaiting delivery. Hope it arrives soon so I might be able to catch up with the sew along as I become familiar with my new machine.

Hello Amanda,
I have remade block E three times and still it won’t come to measure a 6.5 inch block. I don’t have a lot of extra fabric to keep playing with, but even decreasing the seam allowance and making the initial pieces longer, it will not work. HELP!Thank you.

Since Block E is made form a Template I’m wondering if there is a chance you didn’t print it out at 100% and instead selected something like “Fit to Page” in the printer dialogue box. (It might not be phrased exactly that way because each printer is different.) If it is printed at 100% the template should measure 3-1/2” high.

Oh, I think you’re on to something. I went back and reprinted the template at 100% (I didn’t realize it printed at 93%) and it looks like it will work. Thank you so much. Wish I had thought of that. I am hoping to make it correctly today.
