There is nothing more satisfying the wearing a Newsboy cap or a sleek Driving Flat cap hot off the sewing machine! There are so many well made free cap patterns and tutorials out there to use. These caps have such a long history of being worn by all economic and social classes of people.
I found it very helpful to watch and learn how to draft my own 6-8 panel Bakerboy caps. Making flat caps can be a challenge due to the tight curves of the side bands of the hat. Thankfully there are many generous YouTube Cap makers who make tutorials sharing their tips and tricks and experience that help make sewing these caps less daunting to make. I upcycle denim jeans from my local thrift stores and family members to make my hats. I have a Janome Skyline S7 that has a built in walking foot making it easy to go over many layers of denim. I use a kenmore model 1703 cam sewing machine for straight stitching less bulky layers.
