"I like to tell people that I make the biggest diamonds in the world. But instead of using the hardest substances on Earth, I use the softest . . . cloth".
MJ Kinman has been creating her signature giant gem quilts for over 20 years after an image of a sparkling gem captured her imagination. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and national competitions. She is currently preparing for a 2020 exhibit at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. Her gems have been featured in publications such as Quilting Arts Magazine, France Patchwork, McCall’s Quilting, and Make Modern Magazine. Her gems will also be featured in the October 2019 issue of Quiltfolk. MJ has appeared on Quilting Arts TV and The Quilt Show.com with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. Her gems are included in private and corporate collections, including Maker’s Mark Distillery.
MJ has also developed patterns for quiltmakers so that they, too, can create sparkling quilts. Her first pattern series, The Birthstone Series (a collection of 12 blocks representing the traditional birthstone gems designed for the Confident Beginner), was a hit. Her newest series of patterns, the Diamond Divas Series, launches May 2019 with “Elizabeth”, a 48” square princess-cut diamond available in four colorways. Visit MJ’s website and social media sites:
