Alistor Moody from Harry Potter
Description
My 10 year old grandson is a huge fan of Harry Potter! He did not want the run of the mill costumes that are readily available – -noooooooooo he sent me a picture of Alistor Moody. See inspiration picture #1 Hmmmmmmmmmmm this was going to be fun. Attempts at finding a suitable trench coat were futile – -but – -a local outlet store allowed me to go back into their warehouse and after quite a bit of digging – -I came up with 3 leather jackets – -none of which fit him!
Purchased 1 mens XL beige blazer $5. 1 ladies sm beige jacket $5. 1 ladies medium black jacket $5. All had scratches/rips etc.
Yep – -that’s correct – – total cost $15!!! (picture #2) Then the fun began – -took apart all 3 jackets and cleaned up the insides and start the reconstruction. (Picture #3)
I used the front & back of the men’s XL – -shortened the shoulders by 4in and added the sleeves from the ladies jacket. I used the sleeves from the men’s jacket and added then to the bottom to make it a trench coat ( I left the cuffs unbuttoned as a kick pleat). Having to work around the set in pockets, and curved front hem was – -challenging. Then leftover pieces were used to make the buckles. All seams were topstitched using my Bernina 730 with a Teflon foot and just a topstitch 14 needle.
From the ladies black jacket, I cut the front off the back and sleeves – -widened the armholes ( this made the princess lines almost disappear) and used the sleeves for the back. Leftover sleeve fabric was used for the buckles, and there was a lot of extra topstitching added.
The leftover fabric from the back of the black jacket was used to create a FABULOUS trick or treat bag ( along with extra pleather hanging around!).(picture #4)
My son & grandson manufactured the strobe light eye and carved the walking stick. Picture #5
What can I say – -it was so much fun and he was the hit at every Halloween party last year.
They do not enter him in any contests – -they feel its totally not fair living in a very small college town ( Potsdam, NY).
