Great American Solar Eclipse Table Runner using the August Block of the Month

Description

Using this month’s Block (Card Basket Variation), I modified the colors to commemorate the Great American Solar Eclipse (August 21, 2017).  My sister-in-law is hosting a mini-reunion, and lives in St Joseph, MO in the middle of the eclipse path, so I made a table runner using 3 of the blocks.  The backing fabric is bees on a white background (the Missouri State Insect).

  • Yes, I used the August Block of the Month Club (Block #5), which is called “Card Basket Variation” from this site dated August 7, 2017, and swapped out the colors: Fabric A I used black, Fabric B I used yellow, with the exception of the center squares, which I used black, and Fabric C I used blue. I made three complete blocks, then made 2 1/2″ strips to connect the three blocks, then the two long side strips, then the two short side strips. I cut binding from the black. It was helpful to draw out a rough sketch on paper before I cut the strips to plan out what I needed. If you need a longer table runner, you could use four complete blocks. BTW, my sister-in-law loved it! I hope this helps you…..
