Oven Mitts: Easy gifts or fundraiser
Description
Oven mitts are an easy (and super useful) project.
Supplies needed:
4 placemat sized fabric rectangles
2 1/2 inch binding 24” + 6” lengths
Silver heat reflective fabric
batting
If you have a quilting stash, you may already have all of these things on hand, with the exception of the heat resistant fabric, so once you have that in hand it’s an easy and enjoyable sewing project.
Cut your fabric and batting to large placemat size. Use one of your own oven mitts to make a template. Make your 2 quilt sandwiches with the silver reflective fabric facing toward your top fabric. Stitch linearly, using masking tape as a guide. Trace template onto quilted fabric, then cut out. With top sides facing together, stitch together with a 1/4” seam allowance. Place a 6” bias loop in the side seam. Trim bulk from seams as needed. Stitch binding to the bottom, then turn the glove right side out and finish sewing binding.
