Spare Parts
Description
The creation of my Bernina 125th Anniversary Quilt (https://weallsew.com/bernina-125th-anniversary-quilt-along-part-i/), Vibrant Celebration, resulted in a few spare parts. These 6″ blocks cried out from the darkness of their storage crate, “Help us!” Albeit, their pleas were slightly stifled by the plastic bag containing them. I sought out a new home for the poor captives, and found one in the Snowflake Quilt Along (https://weallsew.com/snowflake-quilt-along-week-1/?utm_source=weallsew&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=post_winter_quilts_from_weallsew). You may be thinking it’s an odd time for a winter quilt, but if you weren’t taken aback by my conversing with household objects like Belle of Beauty and the Beast (The townspeople aways said there was something peculiar about her.), you may as well give me a pass on this one. Rather than creating a 4 Patch for the centers of the Snowflake blocks, I substituted my blocks. I paired each block with a coordinating Michael Miller Fairy Frost fabric, as these shimmery shiny blenders have the same extroverted personality as the Tula Pink prints within the blocks. I selected a creamy solid for the background to tone down the wild party crowd. To accommodate the size alteration, I cut the Fairy Frost strips 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ & 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. The cream strips were cut 8 1/2″ x 10 1/2″. The resulting blocks measure 10″ finished. I arranged these like the Snowflake quilt, and cut some setting triangles for the on-point layout. I quilted Spare Parts using my sit-down Bernina equipped with a ruler foot. Blocks were outlined along the seam lines in clear thread. I segmented the background using 1/4″ lines and filled with whatever free-motions patterns struck my fancy. Practically every style of design I know is in there somewhere.

If I had blocks that pretty, I would converse with them too! Your quilting is beautiful.
