Katherine sent photos of a last-minute gift-wrapping project – beautiful! She had no wrapping paper, but plenty of fabric, so she made this precious wrap – which ended up being as big a hit as the gift!
Were you inspired by Erika’s Sunrise Baby Quilt? Then I think you’ll like this “Straight & Narrow” quilt as well. Kari Carr of New Leaf Stitches provides a free quilt pattern and shows us how to combine stitches on the BERNINA 550 QE and use them for a nifty variation on traditional straight-line quilting.
Doesn’t this look like a fun class? It’s a hands-on event they held at The Sewing Room in Tucson, AZ, for their new B 750 sewing machine owners. They had lots of fun sewing Erika’s Geometric Quilt Block Pillow. Thanks, Mary, for sharing this photo!
Linda C. Teufel documented her recent trip to Guatemala with thousands of gorgeous photographs. Here she tells about some of the beautiful textiles and quilts she saw. So much color! You’ll also want to check out her blog at http://dragonthreadsopenbook.blogspot.com/
Georgia Bonesteel made her first QR quilt for her son Paul at www.bonesteelfilms.com and because her son-in-law was so jealous she did one for his office at CocaCola. The top PR person at CocaCola called about featuring it on their blog!
Last week we completed our instructions for Erika’s Sunrise Baby Quilt, so maybe you’re wondering why we’re posting again for Week 5. Maybe you’re thinking, “I finished my quilt and it’s totally cute! What more is there to do?” Well. We have a surprise for you.
Nearly done! This week Erika has absolutely fabulous instructions for stitching a double-fold, mitered-corner binding to your quilt.
You’ll be getting very friendly with your walking foot this week as you stitch back and forth across the layered backing, batting, and pieced top during this week’s Sunrise Baby Quilt Sew-Along installment.
As promised, I put together some fun highlights from QuiltCon 2013 for you. This inaugural event, hosted by the Modern Quilt Guild in Austin, Texas, was a ton of fun. But see for yourself what this impressive exhibition of the best quilts following the new movement had to offer. Plus all the happy faces that were able to attend this great event.
