Maddie Flanigan

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Hobbies: photography, vintage cars and collecting vintage sewing notions

Favorite Type of Sewing: Lingerie. I worked in the technical design department for a large retailer in Philadelphia and for 2 ½ years, I handled sweaters, knits and intimates. This is where I was first introduced to the world of intimates. It took me a year after that stint to dive into the realm of elastics and stretch lace, but it was a love affair from first bra.

Maddie is the author of Madalynne, the cool pattern making and sewing blog. If Steve McQueen was the King of Cool, then Madalynne is the Queen of Cool. Considering most sewers track record, I am a late bloomer. I picked up the craft when I was 18-years-old after finding my mom’s old machine 6 months after she passed away from breast cancer. Eight years later, I inspire others to live a handmade life in a mass-manufacturing society. From jackets to dresses to lingerie, document all things sewing on my blog. I also interview local designers and seamstresses in the Philadelphia area, and through their stories, I show how a hobby can be turned into a career.
