My Sewing Space
Description
This is my “Happy Place”. I use my southwest bedroom (empty of nestlings now) as a sewing and craft room. My sewing machine is situated in front of the west windows where I can look directly into my gardens (another great love of mine). Behind my cutting and quilting table hangs a memory quilt panel exhibiting my mother’s many and varied needlecraft skills, all mounted on remnants from her t-shirts which were made into Memory Quilts. My mother gave me her Bernina sewing machine shortly before she passed away. She had been using it for at least 25 years; and it is still in great working order. It has helped me in my little business called “Art By Rhea” from which I create Memory Bears, Memory Quilts, Memory Bags and Memory Pillows. I found that my business orders greatly increased when I gave all my sewing and needlecraft projects to the Lord and began creating things to be given away to those who need a blessing and comfort. I am currently leading a group of ladies who gather to create things to give away: hats, mittens, scarves, lap robes, quilts, bears, etc. to First Responders for distribution to children in trauma, a Crisis Pregnancy Center, and a hat and mitten drive sponsored by our church. There is room in my sewing room to hold these meetings right here where my supplies are handy. I spend many happy retirement hours in my sunny room creating all kinds of projects to sell or give away.
