Tie Quilt
Description
This is a quilt I made from my stepfather’s ties. He wore a suit and tie to work every day, and had collected hundreds of ties by the time he retired! Since he doesn’t wear ties anymore, I took some of his favorites and stitched them into a quilt so he can still enjoy some of them.
I based the block on a simple 9 patch design. The ties are made from silk, wool, cotton, and linen. I added wool men’s suiting fabrics to each tie block.
This was a holiday gift, and my stepfather loves the quilt! He proudly displays it on his favorite chair, and can always tell a story about one of his favorite ties in the quilt.

Thanks so much coffeebear! I just experimented until I found a pattern I liked. It’s basically a modified 9 patch block. 😉 Happy quilting!

Hi again,
I am writing to express my condolences to the passing of your stepfather. At this time, we need all of the strength and love we can get. So prayers and major hugs to you and your family. He looked like he was a funny guy; his smirk in the photos are classic. So, long story short, I searched web browser for men’s quilts and in “Images” came across your memory quilt, followed by this website, and then went to your blog. Now I just realized the date of the memory quilt you made was in August 2017 not 2020. It is just amazing how time and dates don’t exist online.
But, after all that, I feel bad now that I had asked for the pattern to your memory quilt without knowing the importance of how you made it for your stepfather. I feel like I asked right at the wrong time but know that I apologize for that and made no intentions to hurtful in anyway. If you rather keep this pattern to yourself, I completely understand and respect your choices.
Please accept my warmest condolences, I’m sending thoughts of peace and courage your way.

Wow. That quilt is beautiful. I gear more towards quilts that use walking foot, so I love it. Reusing the fabric is a great part of the project.
I have dress/work shirts and pants I don’t wear anymore and would love to make a quilt in that pattern.
Is the pattern available somewhere, free or to purchase? I would love to make a couple for a few guys. Men would love this quilt. Can be rustic or modern, depending on the colors and fabrics of course.
Well, please let me, and the world, know how to make our own. No pressure of course. Haha.
Can’t wait to see more of your work.
