Pathways Quilt Along: Announcement
I am so excited to share that a brand new quilt along is coming soon to the WeAllSew blog. The Pathways Quilt was designed exclusively for WeAllSew, and I cannot wait to invite you behind the scenes as we bring this quilt to life together.
Whether you plan to sew along week by week or work at your own pace, this quilt along is designed to guide you through the process with clear steps, helpful tips, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

What to Expect
The Pathways Quilt Along will walk you through every stage of making the quilt, from preparation and fabric selection to block assembly and quilting prep. Along the way, I will share tips that help simplify the process and set you up for success, no matter your experience level.
Before we officially begin, this is a great time to gather your supplies, read through the pattern, and start thinking about fabric choices.
Gathering Your Supplies
Here are the tools you will want to have on hand:
- Sewing machine (Dust off your BERNINA!)
- Thread
- Scissors
- Rotary cutter and self-healing cutting mat
- Iron
For this project, I pieced the quilt using the BERNINA Patchwork Foot #97. When it comes time to quilt, you can use the BERNINA Three-Sole Walking Foot with Seam Guide #50 on your home machine or work with a BERNINA longarm quilter in your community.
The cover quilt for Pathways was made using Art Gallery Fabrics, which you will see featured throughout the quilt along; the batting was provided by Hobbs Batting.
Getting Familiar with the Pattern
Before any cutting or sewing begins, I always recommend reading the pattern from start to finish. I like to print my patterns so I can highlight important steps, make notes in the margins, and keep it nearby while sewing.
Early pages of the pattern include important information such as seam allowance, common quilting abbreviations like RST, and other helpful details that apply to the entire quilt. Taking a few minutes to review this information ahead of time will make the sewing process feel smoother once you begin.
Fabric requirements and additional photos of the quilt can be found later in the pattern. You can also see more versions of the Pathways Quilt on my Instagram.
Choosing Your Fabric
Fabric selection is often one of the most exciting parts of starting a new quilt, but it can also feel overwhelming. The Pathways Quilt pattern calls for a minimum of three fabrics.
You will choose two fabrics for the hourglass blocks and one fabric for the grid pieces. If you prefer a more minimalist or neutral look, three coordinating fabrics will create a clean and cohesive design. If your style leans more playful or bold, this pattern works beautifully with scraps. Using a single fabric for the grid pieces will help the hourglass blocks stand out and highlight the structure of the quilt.
If you plan to order fabric online, consider doing so soon so everything arrives in time to begin sewing. I recommend not washing fabric before starting, as long as you are using similar fabric types. Shrinkage will be consistent once the quilt is finished and washed.
The only exception I suggest is bright red fabric, which can bleed more easily. If you are using red, wash it gently, hang it to dry, and press it before cutting.
Fabric Requirements
Here are the fabric requirements for the BERNINA Pathways quilt top:
- Fabric A (The Background Grid) 3.25 yards
- Fabric B (Hourglass Block) 1.5 yards
- Fabric C (Hourglass Block) 1.5 yards
