How to Make a Reusable Straw Carrying Case

Here in Tampa Bay Florida, most restaurants will serve drinks without straws, unless you ask for them. Because of this, I’ve started carrying reusable straws in a carrying case inside my purse.

Today I will be teaching you how to make a reusable straw carrying case with your serger. This easy serger project allows you to use a basic 4-Thread serger stitch to create an entire project.

Hello my Sewing Bees, my name is Sue O’Very owner of Sookie Sews and BERNINA Expert. You can find me on Instagram at @SookieSews, my website SookieSews.com, and on my YouTube Channel SookieSewsTV.com where I have hundreds of sewing projects, machine sewing patterns, embroidery designs, and In-the-hoop projects. Ok, let’s get stitching!

Steps to Make a Reusable Straw Carrying Case

  1. Set the machine up with four standard serger threads and 4-Thread overlock. My tensions were set to 4 for my two needles and two loopers.
  2. Peel back and remove the paper from the wrong side of the contact paper and place the sticky side on the wrong side of the Outside.
  3. With Outside material right side facing up, serge across the top cutting off about 1/8″.
  4. Fold in half widthwise with Outside facing out and align sides and bottom raw edges. Use clips to hold in place and serge along the sides beginning at the top opening, serge off leaving a 1-2″ tail. Serge the bottom seam leaving a 1-2″ tail.
  5. Use a double eye needle to feed the extra thread tail through the backside of the seam, repeat on all three leftover tail parts.
  6. Slide your straws and even your straw cleaner inside the case and pop inside your tote bag or purse. Now, wasn’t that the easiest serger project ever? Image all the color combinations and fun you will have. These make great gifts, craft fair items, and sewing swap surprises!

I hope you enjoyed this easy serger project and enjoy making all of my easy serger projects! When you make yours, please snap a shot and tag me @SookieSews and @BERNINAUSA!!
