Martha Porter
Martha is a professional textile designer and home sewing enthusiast.
In her career as a designer, she has created custom fabrics for many companies over the past 15 years, including Diane von Furstenberg, Tibi, DKNY, and Kate Spade Saturday, where Martha’s colorful, splashy prints defined the brand’s cheerful aesthetic. As a textile designer, she specializes in high end, unique prints, tailored to the tastes of each brand.
Martha holds a BFA in textiles from the Rhode Island School of design, where she learned to weave, hand and machine knit, and all manner of surface design techniques, from silk screen to digital printing. While focused on Textiles at RISD, Martha also took pattern drafting classes in the School’s Fashion department. This blend of skills set her up for a successful career in New York, as well as in her own sewing room.
Martha loves bringing her design process and sensibility into her sewing practice. She has sewn since childhood, and sewing remains her favorite hobby. If she's not sitting down at her BERNINA, you can find Martha hiking in New York's Hudson Valley, riding her bike on Rail Trails, or out in a field looking for four leaf clovers.
