BERNINA Dual Feed – Matching Plaids

Every time I sit down to sew at one of my BERNINA machines I am reminded why I love them. My passion is garment sewing and because I am a perfectionist, I am very critical of my work. Matching plaids and repeated patterns is one of the areas where I am the most critical. If I take the time to ensure that everything will match up when cutting out a pattern, I want it to perfectly match when it is sewn together. The BERNINA Walking Foot #50 is the foot I would use for this in the past, but NOW I use the built-in Dual Feed system of the BERNINA 8-Series machines. The Dual Feed system is like having two sets of feed dogs – one on the bed of the machine and one connected to the presser foot when engaged. This feeds the fabric, top and bottom, evenly to ensure that everything matches perfectly. Of course, I have to match everything up prior to sewing it together. If I have done a good job of matching, I know that the fabric will not shift and my seams will be perfect when they are sewn together!
