Crazy Spider Table Topper
The fall season is always a time when my creative energy reaches a peak — maybe it’s all the beautiful color and texture Mother Nature shows us!
I purchased this adorable “Spidey Table Topper” pattern by Silk Road Creations at a local quilt shop and decided this would be the perfect weekend project — it took less than a half day to complete! The project can be constructed on nearly any sewing machine; all you need is a straight stitch, basic zigzag, and a walking foot (or BERNINA 8 Series Dual Feed).
The quilt-as-you-go technique made quick work of strips of scrap fabric in black, gray, and assorted Halloween prints. One fat quarter is all that’s needed for the backing.
Instead of cotton, I used crushed panne velour fabric in black for the legs. (Hint: I used a size 11 Stretch needle, the Super-Stretch stitch, and lowered the presser foot pressure to 35 for this type of knit.)
The spider was completed with “slime green” fabric and black buttons for the eyes.
