I make useful items related to their interests. My husband enjoys woodworking: I have made hand tool organizers, dust covers out of ripstop nylon that I quilted for body & durability for his power tools. My son enjoys home-brewing, so I made him drawstring cheesecloth sacks for hops that are easier to fill than those for purchase.

I receive request for large lap quilts with the fabric being their favorite teams. I like making and they love getting them.

Guys are a little hard to make for but I have made quilts, IPad covers, Phone covers, camera straps, hats, Book covers and things like this. Usually I find it easier to fill a basket or a bucket with their favorite things. I made a toolbelt and a garden belt once.

Guys are so difficult to sew for! When they’re young, they’re easy – my son used to love it when I made him super-hero costumes and G.I. Joe uniforms. For men, I like to make custom tool pouches to help them stay organized.

I have a hard time making for guys. I usually stick with simple and go with lounge pants. They are always welcome in our house.

quilts for vets. The majority of the quilts my friends and I made this year are lap quilts but we’ve also made hospice quilts this year. One of my favorite guys is a 98-year young WWII vet. My #1 guy got a sofa-size quilt late last year focusing on tools, tools, and more tools.

I make comfort quilts that my guild donates to various places. One time, we really focused on the Alzheimer’s Unit at a VA Hospital. Boldly patterened quilts (think rail fence, etc) in masculine colors. At home, my DH has received custom pillowcases, camp shirts, shorts, and simple seat covers for his car. It can’t be fussy and has to be durable. My nephew once got a quilt based on a drawing he made.
