Set Your Sewing Goals for the New Year
The New Year is upon us and with new years, come new goals. It’s a good time to take a look and see what you want to accomplish this year.
Do you want to power through that stack of UFOs? Have a bucket list quilt you have always wanted to start? Want to learn a new technique? Make a garment you have always wanted to tackle? Do you need a little creative jumpstart? Maybe this is the year to finally start doing The Artist’s Way, get creatively inspired reading Austin Kleon, or kick off a year of jump-starting your Creative Habit.
Sewing is boundlessly creative, but also stretches your imagination and skills.
We have put together a goal planning worksheet to help you get organized.
List your top projects to complete, techniques to learn and more to help you stay on track. Plus, you can track your sewing on a weekly basis to ensure that you spend as much quality time as you can with your machine!
This worksheet is a wonderful addition to your sewing room. Hang it up in your creative space and get the satisfaction of checking items off the list throughout the year!
Sewing goals are a great way to set a sewing or quilting challenge with your friends. Your guildmates or bee members could sit down, complete these sheets, and then at the end of the year, the person who accomplished the most gets the applause of their friends! Maybe you could even have a prize involved (just an idea! ?).

I’m not familiar with “UFO” as it relates to sewing. What does it stand for?
-
I believe the acronym UFO in sewing to be “Unfinished Object”. During the Facebook live associated with this Sewing Goals page, they also mentioned PhD, which means “Projects Half Done”, and another one someone mentioned was PIGS, “Projects in Grocery Sacks”…. These were new to me, but kind of funny.
-
Thanks Susan! I’m curious if anyone knows funny acronyms for half-finished projects.
-
I love the sewing “PhD”… Projects half done!!

And then there are the “USOs” – unstarted objects.

My husband suggested NGH for me…Never Gonna Happen. Haha! I have found some of those in my closet.

Thank you. I have soo many ideas in my head that I want to make or learn that sometimes I get overwhelmed with where to start. Now I need to narrow it down to three.

Goals are good. As the Diamonds 2 QAL is one of my goals, I’m wondering what happened to the post where the January update appeared (then disappeared)?
