Quilt Safari: Material Requirements + First Giveaway

Hey, dear Safari fans, are you already looking forward to the trip?

Fabric Requirements for the Quilt Safari

As mentioned in the invitation blog post, I chose mainly solid fabrics for my Safari Quilt.

In the following quilt layout, you can see how the fabrics are used in the quilt. The quilt measures 56×80 inches (142 cm x 203 cm).

Of course, you don’t have to use exactly the fabrics I have used, this is just a suggestion. This quilt is equally beautiful in many different fabrics. Warm colors and designs are particularly suitable. Here you can see some elephant variations with different printed fabrics:

Fabrics I Used

Do you like the fabrics I have used? Wonderful! Jason from Kingfisher Craft Co in Peachland B.C./ Canada has put together matching bundles for you. You can order your bundle here.

It’s best to order quickly so that you have the fabrics ready when the first block starts on February 15!

Jason will be happy to help you put together other color combinations and will gladly send you the fabrics you have chosen. Of course, you don’t have to travel to Canada for this. Just contact Jason directly. You can find his contact details here: Contact Kingfisher Craft Company.

Or you can use fabrics from your own stash. Basically, fat quarters are sufficient for almost all quilt blocks. Only for the large blocks, which have a format of 16″x 16″ (these are the lion, the giraffe, the rhino and the elephant), you will need a little more fabric for the background. You can see the list above. The list of fabric requirements can of course also be found in the pattern.

The first three colors on the list above include the border.

Material Requirements – What Else Do You Need Besides the Fabric?

First of all, you need the pattern, which you can get here on my website.

The pattern package contains 8 different paper piecing patterns. And of course the instructions for this safari quilt.

Of course, you also need a sewing machine. I work with the BERNINA 770 QE PLUS Kaffe Edition, but you can participate with any machine. You will also need the following:

• Thread and needles (I use Mettler Silk Finish Cotton No. 50 in the colors cream or white and size 70 needles)
• Cutting mat and rotary cutter
• Paper scissors and fabric scissors
• standard printing paper to print out the pattern pieces
• Fabric glue stick (e.g. from Sewline)
• Ironing board and iron
