There is no better project than making a quilt for the little bundle of joy in your life! Plus, baby quilts are just the right size project and is something you could tackle faster and easier than a larger quilt. For most people a baby quilt becomes more than just a baby quilt but a sentimental piece in their life that they cherish and keep for the rest of your life. We have a great Checkered Streets Baby Quilt tutorial for you that is made entirely out of Antique Tile blocks, designed in two different fabric combinations. We used Charleston Fabrics and Les Petits Fabrics which has a perfect color palette that would work for a baby girl or boy! We will be using the strip piecing method which is a helpful technique for piecing quilts quickly. Click here to view a fun video tutorial about the Antique Tile Block.
This quilt was made with Charleston Fabrics, Les Petits Fabrics mixed with some of our Denim Studio Smooth Denims. Fabric Requirements are based on 44″ wide fabric.
Note: Our denim studio fabrics are 58″ – 59″ and you will have a little left over fabric that you could piece together to make a cute patchy decorative pillow.

Sew four (4) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips from Fabric H and J right sides together at 1/4″ seam allowance. Repeat with sewing four (4) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips from Fabric I and K and press seams to one side. Sub cut strip sets to get thirty-two (32) 4 1/2″ squares.
Sew two (2) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips from Fabric J and K right sides together at 1/4″ seam allowance. Repeat with sewing two (2) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips from Fabric F and I and press seams to one side.
Sub cut strip sets to get thirty-two (32) 2 1/2″strips.
You will be making 8 Block A’s and 8 Block B’s. Block B is constructed in the same manner but in a different fabric combination and the 4 1/2″ square center of your block will change. Have fun choosing fun fussy-cut prints to place in the center of your blocks. Charleston fabric collection is full of perfect prints for fussy cuts!
Place all your pieces out how they should be sewn following the block design.
Chain piece together all your 2 1/2″ sub cut pieces to the corresponding 2 1/2 “x 4 1/2” strip. (Follow quilt illustration as a guide.)
Sew rows 1-3 to create your blocks. Press seams in alternating directions.
Alternate your Block A’s and B’s into four rows of four blocks each.
Quilt as desired! I chose a fun organic quilting motif. I used the BERNINA Stitch Regulator which is a fun accessory to use for free-motion quilting on your home sewing machine. Click here to check out a great video about the BSR Foot!
