We’ve just reached an amazing 58,000 likes on our BERNINA USA Facebook fan page, and that means it’s time for another giveaway! We quickly gained another 1,000 fans to hit 58,000 likes on our Facebook fan page in the last week! As a way to say “Thank You!” to all who join us at Facebook to share your love of sewing and creating with us, we are holding another special giveaway.   • In 1987, my then-boyfriend’s parents were going out to dinner on Halloween. Their front entryway was a recessed hallway, and it was easy to put up some dark fabric. I had picked up a static globe (the glass ball with the lightning inside), and he picked up a flat lightining disc. I dressed up as a witch, and he wore a dark robe that his aunt had made for him some years before, and looked rather like Death Incarnate. We had jack-o-lanterns in the bay window, and some orange lights in the bushes, making it clear that yes, we were open for candy-giving-away. At one point, early in the evening, a couple came with their little girl. When we opened the door and the girl saw the eerie interior, she screamed and ran back to hide behind her daddy. We felt so bad for her (while her parents were laughing not unkindly), that we gave her and her parents an extra handful of goodies. My husband and I still laugh about that evening, to this day.

  • Nothing special for this year, most scariest costume. Remember the King from the burger king commercials. Yes, I made Burger King Costume for my husband and I went as Wendy (get it from Wendy’s). I even made a giant burger from foam and fabric. My husband must really love me, prior to getting married, we went to a Halloween party, I made him a farm girl outfit. Short plaid skirt with ruffle, off the shoulder white gauze top, under the bust vest, Shirley temple wig, kids cowboy hat, nerf foot ball cut in half for his busty bosom, and makeup and I went as a cow.

  • I am sewing a tablerunner and some trivets for a Halloween swap this year. The recipient didn’t prefer scary so I am sticking with cute for those. I am gathering scary fabrics or ‘creepy’ fabrics for a future quilt for my daughter. Started with some Nevermore collection.

  • I thought I was being a bit preemptive when I whipped out my Halloween fabric stash but there is something fun about Halloween , fall is in the air! No scary costumes but I made a witchy table runner in a cube like pattern and I did some free motion quilting for the very first time (not counting my practice on scraps and a pot holder).

  • One year I made a Grover costume for my 6 foot 5 inch son=in-law, some of the longest seams I’ve ever sewn! It was in the 90s on Halloween that year and he was very hot.

  • I am not sewing anything in preparation for Halloween –no kiddos in the house and besides having a bowl of candy by the front door and possibly a pumpkin on the front porch, don’t really do too much about Halloween at my house.

  • I love to decorate for Halloween and Christmas. This year’s Halloween project will use up a bunch of scraps of costume fabrics I have collected over the years. It’s a mantle scarf that will be comprised of various widths and lengths of fabrics cut into points with the raw edges serged. These are attached to a rectangle of black spiderweb lace that is cut to the same size as the mantle. I am trying various combinations of fabrics by taping the pointed strips along the mantle until I like it. Looking at the fabrics brings back so many memories of costumes I have made for my family and our community theater. It has been fun to re-visit them.

  • Nothing really scary this year, but I just finished my granddaughters costume which is a Rainbow Fairy! Turned out great, thanks to my true and trusted Bernina : ) ! I never run out of things to create!

  • I do not celebrate Halloween…but I am busy sewing. Quilting the last of four kids quilts..then moving onto making a sampler along with my friend who wanted to take a beginner’s class. I figured the class would refresh my skills and enhance my efforts.

  • One year my daughter made a Waffle costume (with her husbands help) out of foam. 3d and painted it 3d he was 4 his year old sister was a blueberry! He yawed down and she sat on him. The cutest thing ever!!!!!!!

  • Every year, I make Trick or Treat bags for my neighbor’s Granddaughters. There are three of them, and this has become an annual tradition. I usually embroider designs and incorporate Spooky material. It is all worth it to I see their eyes light up, when I bring them their bags. Usually, I do about five different bags and let them each pick their favorite. One year, the oldest one couldn’t make up her mind between two of the bags, so I let her have both. They are the sweetest girls and they always give me hug and say Thank you. My own Granddaughters are 16 and 18 now, too big for Trick or Treating.

  • I’d like to sew a dog-coat for my son’s German Wirehair, Acer, before the two of them head to Alaska where my son will begin his practice in dentistry next month. It’s sort of like making a costume! I’ll attempt to make dog boots too, with velcro fasteners.

  • I am currently working on a spider table runner. It is pretty with sparkle quilting for the web.
    Truthfully, I have never made a scary costume unless you count the cute witch one 40 years ago.

  • I have been sewing table runners for my 2 daughter-iin-laws. They have been wanting me to make something for them, but baby quilts have been interfering with my good intentions. Won’t they be surprised when they also receive Christmas runners this year. My favorite costume was for my son, Art, who went as King Arthur when he was 4. Loved that.

  • I will be making Halloween decorations/quilted table runners .. the scariest thing I made were ET costumes for my kids when they were little and a flying witch who flew into our front door .. now they are pretty popular ..

  • Nope, nothing this year, but in years past I usually would go for the punniest costume. My best one was the year I dressed up as as Ape Lincoln. Gorilla mask, beard, tophat…

  • I’ve made costumes for my sister, my daughters, my grandchildren and now my great-granddaughter. She, however, has not gotten into “scary” yet. Being three she is just the opposite and will wear her birthday costume for Halloween. Ariel, complete with fins, is her favorite princess at the moment.

  • I am trying to get a Halloween quilt made from the Primitive Gatherings magazine. Hope I can get it done by then. If I still have some time, I will make Trick or Treat bags out of the left over fabric.

    When the kids were little, I made them dinosaur costumes with long tails, skeleton costumes, mummy, etc. One year I had the bright idea to do after school daycare. All the kids would put on the costumes and run around “terrorizing” each other. They had more fun through the year with those costumes than they did on Halloween!

  • I am working on house and yard displays to help my husband. I get Christmas, and he gets Halloween. He is asking for a shroud for the opening to a crypt, a couple of ghosts to fly through the yard, and a few modifications to his black cloak wardrobe that he loves to use. I’ll be glad to be sewing with fall colors, or better yet, reds and greens starting promptly on Nov 1!!!!

  • Last year marked the first time I haven’t made costumes in a very long time! And I’m kind of glad! I made them for kids and then their kids and I always spent way too much on them! I never really made any scary ones – seemed to make lots of Disney princess or animal costumes the most

  • Nothing too scarey this year, My 4 year old grand-daughter is starting to have questions about some of the decorations. How do you explain mean looking witches and giant spiders to someone who is still not sure what is real and what is pretend? I think we’ll be sticking with pumpkins and candycorn this year.

  • Nothing this year – with the kids all grown up, moved out & married, Halloween is just answering the doorbell and enjoying the neighborhood kids costumes!

  • O my I love those books. They are on my wish list. I am not sewing for Halloween this year. I made a pirate outfit when my children were little for my son. Now all my kids are grown and buy all those fancy outfits at the party store. You know they still have to go to Halloween parties.

  • We’ll see. The most challenging was a Kirby costume. It had a 36″ sphere internal structure covered with pink fuzzy fabric with a Kirby face and ears on it. After that, anything else should be a “piece of cake.” Maybe not…

  • I always made my children’s costume when they were small. Recently haven’t had to make any but would love to again for grand babies!! Nothing scary though!!

  • I’m going to make some Trick or Treat bags. The last costume I made was a women’s Pirate. I’m thinking about making a 20 era dress, for me and my two girls.

  • I won’t be doing much for Halloween this year. I am busy with making wedding favors and things for the first grand baby due in Jan 2014. Do have one project to finish from last year though.

  • I used to sew Halloween costumes for my 3 children every year – but now they are all over 20 years old and “do their own thing”. Therefore, this year, I won’t do any Halloween costume sewing.
    Tula Pink is one of my favorite fabric designers, and I would just love to win this book!

  • I’m not into super scary, but I have made an Evil Gingerbread Man and my daughter was a bunch of grapes. I got a brown sweatsuit, and sewed some belly trim and cuff trim. I made a head with 2 button eyes and an open mouth filled with jagged teeth. I assume the Evil Gingerbread Man will eat his friend, instead of being eaten himself. I ended up looking like Domo?, which I had to look up when I got home from Trick or Treating (yes, I’m over 30 and trick or treat because I look 15, so if I have to go, then I’m going to get something out of it).

    I just had to sew some leaves to my daughters hat, and fix a bunch of balloons to her suit. What was funny, is that her grape costume got the most compliments! We have big plans to be a group of Fruit of the Loom this year because of that.

    I have just started sewing in the last year, so I don’t have too many decorations that I have sewn. But I have super big plans for some awesome spooky Halloween quilts/wall hangings in the future. Congrats on your big fan base and thanks for the chance to win!

  • Just pulled out Halloween fabric bin. Making treat bags for the grands. Some of the scraps I will be using are from my mom’s fabric hoard….and were used in costumes made by her for my son 35 years ago! Wonder if he will remember them? 🙂

  • I am making a Halloween Table Runner for Software Sampler this month. Scariest Halloween costume…..haven’t made one but I did make 6 power ranger costumes one year!

  • Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays, but I have no plans for costumes or other sewing this year. Best costume I ever made was probably a Statue of Liberty costume and makeup made when I was in college.

  • I’m not making any Halloween things this year. I do enjoy seeing the costumes though, and perhaps if I can fit it in between my jobs I can do a decorative door decoration. My scariest costume? – …. I had a sweatshirt on which I attached those small single serving sizes of cereal boxes. Stuck into each box was a knife. It was for a cereal killer costume.

  • I’m not planning on any thing special. In the past I put together costumes for my kids. I made a black hooded gown for my son. The grand kids want special characters and they don’t ask me to make them. I would like to maybe put together Patchabilities for Halloween.

  • I’m planning to make a door-hanging ghostly skeleton from an old linen sheet, bangled and beaded with various beads and buttons from the sewing room collections

  • Very soon going to be a Grandmother for the very first time. I have been sewing like crazy when I’m not working. Making burp pads, Diaper bag and quilt. Not enough time in my days for all the sewing I’m trying to cram into it!!

  • I have a new grand daughter who will 11 months old on Halloween and I’d like to sew her something cute to wear that day.

  • Making Halloween hostess aprons this year.

    The scariest Halloween costume I ever made was the year my young son wanted to be a brick wall! It was scary for me because I wasn’t sure how I would create a wearable brick wall for a 5 yr old and how would it go down with his peers? It worked out great, and lead to some other fun/challenging requests in the following years … a lightening bolt, a flame, and a road. I miss those years!

  • My mom used to sew for me, one time I was the Grimm Reaper with black hood and all. I just got my first Bernina last week (350PE) – yay! – and now it is time to sew for my little daughter – but a cute fairy costume, nothing scary yet.

  • I’m about past the age of having anyone to sew costumes. I’ve sewn princess, brides and pumpkins but never anything scary! I won’t be sewing for Halloween this year but will hopefully get a start on Christmas sewing.

  • I have been sewing halloween costumes for quite some time as my oldest will be 30 but even though I had a costume in the box I would change some way so it was a new costume for my next son and some the younger one would get a new costume that the older oner ones had not worn. I have done Mickey Mouse to a cow to a grim reaper to a pumpkin. Now you are reminding to finish my pumpkin table runner. Thanks.

  • My grandson is still trying to decide what he will be for Halloween, so I haven’t done any Halloween sewing yet. The scariest costume I have ever sewn is a giant fish, that sits on the kid’s shoulders. Actually, its not really that scarey, just fun. The cat always gets scared when she sees it though.

  • Nothing for Halloween (did stich up two ‘pumpkins’ once to be stuffed with newspaper & worn over jeans or tights–certainly not scary!) but working on beaded/sequined red velvet Christmas stockings.

  • Halloween is the best holiday ever. I love all the decorating, the cool weather, everything about Fall is great. I am thinking of making another Halloween quilt to decorate the house, using a pattern I’ve had for a decade! It has a spooky house and a witch on it. Gotta love those witches!
