BERNINA L 890 Garment Sew Along with Grainline Studio, Part 6: Knit Airy Top
It’s Day 6 of the L890 Airy Top & Comfy Dress Garment Sew Along and it’s time for the Airy Top in a knit! Knits sometimes get a reputation for being difficult in different corners of the internet but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Knits are forgiving both at the machine and to wear and are often quicker to sew. After sewing up the woven Airy Top this will be easy!
We’ll be using two stitches to sew up this top, the 4-thread overlock, and the 2-needle coverstitch. While you’re sewing think about how similar, yet different the construction of this top was from the woven version. I think it’s wild how much you can do with just one pattern, some fabric, and a versatile machine! We’ve only got one lesson left, sewing up the Comfy Dress. If you thought this one was easy you’re not going to believe how quickly the dress goes together!

This has been a great series! I have learned a lot of little tips about how to do things differently and more efficiently. Thanks so much.

Can you provide the tension setting for the jersey knit for the 4 thread overlock/ I found that the defaults were not working. Long threads showed on the outside of the garment seam.

I had that happen also on a rayon and on a knit.

Great series with great techniques. Just got the L890 and made three shirts in the last two days. Had to use the sewing machine instead of the chain stitch because I didn’t know how to do it on the serger. I will learn in the new machine class. Thank you!

I liked the tip on leaving the serger thread connected between the shoulder seams across the neckline!
