BERNINA L 890 Garment Sew Along with Grainline Studio
Did you know April is National Serger Month? To celebrate that, and the launch of the new L 890 Overlocker, we’ve put together a fun sew-along for you all! Throughout the month of April, I’ll be walking you through the steps to sew up the free Airy Top and Comfy Dress patterns that I created to accompany the L890. For other versions of the patterns, please see the bottom of this post. We’ll be sewing up three different garments using this pattern and just your L 890 Overlocker – no sewing machine needed!
We’d love to have you join in! I’ll be covering everything from printing your PDF Pattern, to choosing your size, to every aspect of the sewing process. If you’re new to garment sewing, or just new to your L 890 this is a perfect series to gain confidence and pick up new tips & tricks. In our first video in the series I’ll be giving you an overview of the patterns, going over the tools and supplies you’ll need to complete your own garments, and talking about fabric choice for each of the garments. I hope you’ll sew along with us and discover just how fun garment sewing with an overlocker can be!

It’s free to join in, all the videos will be posted here and to the BERNINA YouTube page! As far as knit, I’m using a jersey knit from Robert Kaufman for the knit airy top and I highly recommend RK’s ponte knit if you’re making the dress. It’s the best ponte I’ve found and sews beautifully!

5-thread stitch…is it on the L890?

I have a Bernette B64. It has only 4 thread overlock. Can I do the Airy top with 4 thread. Is the seam allowance 1/2″

What is the procedure for the April garment sew a long with Grainline Studio for signing up, costs, etc.?
Also I like good quality knit. Any suggestions what type to purchase? Thank you
