Top 10 Overlocker Mechanics’ Tips
April is National Serger Month, and we’re celebrating with top tips, techniques, and tutorials through the end of the month! Today we’re sharing 10 top overlocker mechanics tips that will help keep your machine purring.
Overlocker Top 10 Mechanics’ Tips
Overlocker mechanics tip #1: Pull the retractable thread stand to the highest position before sewing.
Overlocker mechanics tip #2: Use caution with sewing pins, as running them into the cutting knife can damage the machine and require a new blade.
Overlocker mechanics tip #3: Raise the presser foot when threading, as this opens the tension disks ensuring proper threading.
Overlocker mechanics tip #4: Turn the handwheel toward you in a counter-clockwise motion always.
Overlocker mechanics tip #5: Brush of lint and fiber debris from machine regularly (after every use).
Overlocker mechanics tip #6: Cover your machine when not in use to ensure no thread tangling or exposure to dust.
Overlocker mechanics tip #7: Oil the machine when all lint and fiber debris is removed, and use little oil. Oil will act like a magnet to debris causing the machine to work harder to run smoothly.
Overlocker mechanics tip #8: Oiling depends on machine usage, and is not needed with the same frequency as a sewing machine. Machines not used may need oiled more than machines used often (oil when machine is very dry, or sounding very noisy).
Overlocker mechanics tip #9: Remember it is OKAY to change the thread tensions and settings! This machine is made to be adjusted for your fabric needs.
Overlocker mechanics tip #10: Differential feed can eliminate unwanted puckering and enhance decorative features like gathering and stretching.
